Independence high school student first inductee into hall of fame

–Rising rodeo star and local teen LaRae Luis was recently honored at a Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Board Meeting for her achievements at the National High School Finals Rodeo World Championships held this summer in Wyoming.

The Principal of Independence High School, Nate Maas, announced that the school would be awarding her the very first athletic letter in the history of Independence High School, and in honor of her achievements they have established the Independence High School Hall Of Fame and have named Lewis as the first inductee.

Lewis scored a 287.5 in the short go (Finals). Her total for the average was 855.5 which placed her 7th in the world standings. “Not only was this her rookie year for High School Rodeo but she had never shown in the Reined Cow Horse event in her life,” says her mom Shari Mark Luis. LaRae’s father, Mark Luis, owns Mark Luis Training Stables in Paso Robles.

“She had never really competed in anything she was behind the scenes loping horses and doing show prep for her dad (her choice) all of her life. And the horse that she was riding was not her horse. Her seasoned old horse was lame and this horse was a green broke 5 year old that had only been in the show pen once before she borrowed him from her dad. Needless to say she is my hero!”
