A North County teen died over the weekend after crashing his car on Friday afternoon near Highway 101 and Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo.

He was identified as 19-year-old Kyle Sheffield of Paso Robles, California Highway Patrol reports. He was an Atascadero High School graduate and Paso Robles resident.

The CHP reports the teen was driving south on Higuera Street and slowing down to turn onto the northbound entrance to Highway 101 at about 12:30 p.m. on Friday.

A witness says that while making the turn it looked like Sheffield might be having a seizure, and that his car accelerated to about 60 miles per hour, according to a report. His 1994, 4-door, Honda Accord hit a guardrail, fence and tree, before landing in a creek bed a few hundred yards down a hill. Sheffield suffered major injuries in the crash

He was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where he died over the weekend.
