accident on highwayThe driver of a Hummer H3, trying to pass tractor trailer on Highway 46 East, collided with a box van early Monday morning, the California Highway Patrol reports.

On Monday at about 12:45 a.m., a yet-to-be-identified driver, referred to as John Doe, was driving a 2006 Hummer H3, traveling eastbound on Highway 46 East, east of Highway 41. John Doe was traveling at an unknown speed, when he moved into the westbound lane to pass a slow moving tractor trailer that was traveling eastbound directly in front of John Doe.

Francisco Valadez was driving a 1995 Ford Box Van traveling westbound on Highway 46 East, east of Highway 41 approaching the Hummer. As John Doe came along side the tractor trailer, the Hummer and the Ford collided head on in the westbound lane. Both vehicles came to rest on their wheels, facing each other and blocking the westbound lane of Highway 46 East.

Francisco Valadez sustained major injuries and was transported via ground ambulance to Sierra Vista Hospital. John Doc sustained major injuries and was transported via Cal Star Air Ambulance to Sierra Vista Hospital.

The cause of this collision is still under investigation, although drug and or alcohol use are not suspected of having contributed to this collision.
