Assemblyman Achadjian awards small business of the year 

In conjunction with California Small Business Day, June 16,, Assembly Member Achadjian, R-Arroyo Grande, this week honored Broadway Jewelers, an Arroyo Grande jewelry store, as the as the 35th Assembly District 2014 Small Business of the Year.

“While best known for their jewelry business, Eddie El-Helou and his wife Dorothy are truly outstanding citizens dedicated to serving the community through various organizations and events,” commented Assemblyman Katcho Achadjian upon recognizing the El-Helou’s at the Small Business of the Year award ceremony. “Eddie and Dorothy have provided exemplary quality service and are very well respected in the 35th Assembly District. I am so please to have this opportunity to honor them for their work and for their countless hours of service to the many organizations in our community,” Achadjian continued.

The fifth among eleven children, Eddie El-Helou was born and raised in Lebanon before moving to the United States in 1972. Eddie settled in King City where he first opened Broadway Jewelers and after 14 years, the El-Helou’s relocated their business to the Village of Arroyo Grande where it has remained since 2000. Broadway Jewelers continues to grow and the El-Helou’s remain committed to providing competitive sales while ensuring exemplary customer service.

“I am so honored to be recognized by Assemblyman Achadjian and the SBA for all they do to support small businesses in our region,” commented Eddie El-Helou upon receiving the award. “It has been an absolute joy and privilege to be able to provide our customers with the quality service they deserve while still being able to participate and give back to our community.”

As part of his effort to give back to the community, Eddie also supports and participates in numerous community organizations and civic groups. Upon arriving in Arroyo Grande, Eddie joined the Kiwanis Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and was appointed the Chairman of the Arroyo Grande Hospital Foundation. In 2008, Eddie joined the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Department Volunteers and now manages the Volunteer Patrol and the Graffiti Abatement Programs within San Luis Obispo County. In 2009, Eddie was recognized for his efforts and selected as the Arroyo Grande Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.

Held annually, California Small Business Day is sponsored by the California Small Business Association and gives Legislators the opportunity to honor outstanding small businesses from their districts. Honorees are invited to Sacramento to participate in a daylong event that includes speeches from legislative leaders, workshops, and an award luncheon where honorees are presented with a special award by their legislative representatives.
