Katcho Achadjian represents Paso Robles at the California State Assembly.

Special districts in San Luis Obispo County and across the state are recognizing local Assemblyman Katcho Achadjian as the 2014 Legislator of the Year. Achadjian was selected because of his non-partisan spirit, support of local control, and close work with the local service specialists responsible for delivering water, fire protection, parks, healthcare and other essential services, according to a press release from the California Special Districts Association.

The recognition is awarded by the California Special Districts Association (CSDA) and the San Luis Obispo County Chapter of CSDA. The honor will be presented Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Avila Beach Community Building, 191 San Miguel Street in Avila Beach.

Special districts are independent public agencies that deliver essential local services to communities, such as water, fire protection, parks and recreation, healthcare, sanitation, mosquito abatement, ports, libraries, public cemeteries and more. Districts are established by voters and their funding is approved by voters in order to meet specific needs through focused service. They can be specially molded to serve large regions or small neighborhoods depending on the need. For more information, visit www.csda.net.
