City plans major street repairs this summer

road repairs

The Paso Robles City Council this week awarded a contract to repair a number of major street segments this summer. The $1.3-million bid was awarded to Papich Construction Co. of Grover Beach. Funds for the repairs come from the city’s temporary half-cent sales tax that was approved by voters in November 2012.

This initial supplemental sales tax funded road repair project includes repaving of Rolling Hills Road, South River Road (Niblick to Navajo), Airport Road between Scott and Linne), and Country Club Drive.

  • Country Club – Niblick to parking lot
  • South River – Niblick to Navajo
  • Airport Road – Scott to Pioneer Trail

The city is spending $1 million in banked sales tax revenue and an additional $270,138 from reserve funds to complete the project. The roads to repair and recommended expenditure came from the city’s Supplemental Tax Oversight Committee, created to oversee the temporary tax revenue.

To date, $2,783,412 in sales tax revenue has been received, with a balance of $2,251,323 available for this first set of streets to be repaired. The city projects $4 million will be collected and available this year.
