Parks4Pups will host a special film showing of “Best in Show”, an improvisational comedy film that has received numerous awards. The film will be shown on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the Park Cinemas as a fundraiser for Sherwood Dog Park of Paso Robles.

The event starts with a “Yappy Hour” at 6 p.m. with wines by the glass or popcorn and soda combinations available for purchase with the film showing at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the event are $12 in advance through February 1 and $15 at the door. Advance tickets are available at www.sherwooddogpark.com . Event proceeds benefit the maintenance fund for Sherwood Dog Park of Paso Robles, a non-profit organization.

“Best in Show,” released in 2000, is best described as a “mockumentary” with a behind the scenes look into the highly competitive and cut-throat world of dog-shows through the eyes of a group of ruthless and often neurotic dog owners. The film follows five entrants and focuses on the surreal and comic interactions among the various owners and handlers as they travel to the show and compete. It is also a very comic look at how the personalities and characteristics of the owners match those of their dogs. Much of the dialogue in the film was improvised.

The film received the 2001 American Comedy Award for Funniest Motion Picture, Funniest Supporting Actor and Actress as well as comedy awards from Britain and Canada. The film is also on many critics’ lists of best comedy films ever made.

Event sponsors include Park Cinemas and J. Lohr Vineyards. Park Cinemas is located at 1100 Pine Street in Downtown Paso Robles. For more event information, please call (805) 239-4437 or email info@parks4pups.org .
