Seeking retirement, Cindy Walton strikes deal with Vacasa to provide a succession path to employees

— This week, Cayucos, California business owner Cindy Walton will retire from her vacation rental business, Cayucos Vacation Rentals, which she has owned for more than 20 years. Walton will sell the business to Vacasa, a vacation rental management company which uses technology to make the vacation rental experience easier for guests and more efficient for homeowners.

Cayucos Vacation Rentals’ three remaining employees will join Vacasa, a Portland, Oregon-headquartered company with operations in the U.S., Central America, South America, and Europe. For Vacasa, the deal will improve operational efficiency, adding employees in a previously understaffed market.

“We are so thrilled to bring on the team here in Cayucos,” says Eric Breon, Vacasa’s founder, and CEO. “At Vacasa, we pair global technology with local expertise, and Lindsey, James, and Matt bring a wealth of local knowledge to the team. We look forward to working with them for years to come.”

Cindy Walton, the previous owner, connected with Vacasa in an effort to provide a succession path to the company’s employees following her retirement. Vacasa, which employs more than 1,400 people in the U.S., will offer significantly greater opportunities for advancement, as well as improved vision and dental benefits to employees. She also owns a vacation rental in Cayucos and is looking forward to working with Vacasa to increase the revenue from the property while she travels the U.S. with her husband, Mark, in their R.V.

“Working with our guests, homeowners, and dedicated employees over these past 20 years has been a true honor,” says Walton. “When it came time for me to start thinking about retirement, I wanted to be sure my employees would be able to remain with the business, and that our owners would continue to receive great service without interruption. Vacasa provides this and more. Now, our employees have unlimited growth potential within a global business, and our owners benefit from Vacasa’s world-class marketing and yield optimization technology. I have no doubt that I’m leaving this company in the best possible hands.”
