City hires Tyler Technologies to Replace Outdated Software and Paper-Based Processes

Screen Shot 2013-04-20 at 7.19.29 AMThe city of Paso Robles, Calif., has signed an agreement with Tyler Technologies, Inc. (TYL) for Tyler’s Munis® enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution to deliver modern features the city needs to better conduct its business.

Located on the Central Coast of California, the city of Paso Robles needed to replace its financial system, which was installed in 1988 and was no longer being upgraded or even sold by the vendor. The old system had limited functionality and required city employees to manually extract data for some reports while others required the vendor’s involvement and took days to complete at an additional cost to the city.

The city chose Tyler because its Munis financial and human resources applications address their old system’s limitations while providing many new features the city needs to better and more efficiently serve its constituents, including approximately 30,000 residents and 180 employees.

Among Munis’ benefits cited by the city were its easy-to-use reporting tools for non-technical staff; familiar Windows®-based Internet browsing interface; and, electronic workflow that improves productivity by reducing the time spent processing invoices, requisitions, personnel actions and timecards. Also, by using Munis’ content management system, the city will be able to electronically query and share documents across departments.

“Like many cities, Paso Robles wanted an integrated financial and human resources solution from a single provider with a solid track record of success and a strong financial foundation — Tyler and Munis proved an outstanding fit for the city. Several other California municipalities have recently selected our Munis ERP solution, and that also factored into the city’s decision,” said Richard E. Peterson Jr., president of Tyler’s ERP & School Division. “Paso Robles can take comfort in Tyler’s evergreen licensing program, which includes updates as part of the annual maintenance fee thereby safeguarding that the city’s ERP software will remain current. We’re very pleased to be helping Paso Robles modernize its approach to financial and human resources management.”

The city of Paso Robles is located in San Luis Obispo County, which uses software products from Tyler’s Appraisal & Tax, and Courts & Justice divisions.
