Council creates panel to interview city manager candidates
– The Paso Robles City Council voted Tuesday night to create a panel made up of local citizens and other city managers to interview candidates for city manager.
The city has received 47 applications for the top spot. Consulting firm Avery & Associates is screening applications to provide recommendations of those who appear qualified and most suitable. The panel will interview the chosen candidates and recommend two or three for the council to interview.
Each councilman is appointing a citizen to the panel. Councilman John Hamon appointed retired Paso Robles Schools Superintendent Patrick Sayne. Councilman Steve Gregory appointed Larry Werner of North Coast Engineering. Councilman Fred Strong appointed Dee Lacy, a cattle rancher and former Paso Robles Citizen of the year. Councilman Jim Reed appointed long-time resident Jerry Jones. Mayor Steve Martin has yet to announce his appointee.
A day-long session of interviews is expected to take place later this month.
Paso Robles City Manager Jim App announced in February that he is retiring at the end of this year. App has been the city’s top administrator for 18 years.
