Council gives green light to Creston traffic signal

Traffic signal improvements to focus on Creston Road corridor
–The Paso Robles City Council, at its Tuesday meeting, approved a contract for Lee Wilson Electric Company in Arroyo Grande, at a cost of $306,730, to install a new traffic signal at the Lana and Creston intersection, and upgrade the existing traffic signal at Golden Hill Road and Creston as part of the first phase of improvements in the Creston Road corridor.
A study concluded a traffic signal should be installed at the intersection of Lana and Creston Road, which has been a challenge for quite some time due to the large volume of school children using the intersection which is immediately adjacent to Winifred Pifer Elementary School, the report said. A study was also initiated at the Golden Hill and Creston intersection and the report concluded that the traffic signal should be upgraded to include a protected left turning phase (north bound Golden Hill from eastbound Creston Road).
The cost of the work will be covered by funds generated by the Supplemental Sales Tax, and work is expected to begin this summer. Further road improvements will be initiated in 2018; in anticipation of a planning grant that city staff have applied for, which could lead to a construction grant (approximately $2-3 million dollars), by 2020-2021.
