City rescinds historic status of home built in 1893

historic home at 1527 Park Street

This historic home at 1527 Park Street was removed from the city’s Historic Resources Inventory.

The city council agreed this week to remove a house built in 1893 from the city’s Historic Resources Inventory. The brick and masonry house is located at 1527 Park Street in downtown Paso Robles.

Its removal from the list frees the property owner and a potential buyer to request authorization to demolish the home. The request for removal from the list of historic homes came from owners Walter and Claire Macklin, who are in escrow to sell the home, according to a city staff report.

The Macklins provided the city a report prepared by John Kudla of JK Engineering that evaluates the current condition of the unreinforced masonry building. It concludes that “the 2003 San Simeon catastrophic earthquake and subsequent accelerated material deterioration have irreversibly damaged the supporting red brick structure and rendered the structure a hazard to public safety.”

What will take it’s place? Such a shame to throw away a beautiful historical little home, should be retrofitted somehow…. The engineers can work wonders.

If you were from Paso Robles and not just someone who has moved there and now call it home you would know if the Macklin’s are selling a historical home to be torn down, there is no hope for the building. If you were from Paso you would know enough not to question one of Paso most respected and honest families FROM Paso who have given their whole lives serving the families FROM PASO.
