On Monday, July 22, 2013 at 3:44 p.m., Paso Robles officers responded to a report of a vehicle burglary which had occurred in the previous three hours in the parking lot of Cregor’s Market at 611 Spring Street.

The victim reported she locked her vehicle with her purse inside while she went to work at the market. When she returned later, she found the purse missing and evidence that an unknown suspect had forced open a vehicle window to gain entry and take the purse.

The victim was able to isolate business surveillance video of the crime as it occurred. The investigating officer was then able to use images of the suspect from this video in an attempt to locate the suspect.
On today’s date, at approximately 1:30 p.m., employees at the market called the Paso Robles Police to report that the same suspect was inside the business.

Police officers responded and detained this suspect without incident. The suspect was positively identified as the suspect from the vehicle burglary and arrested for that crime. This suspect was identified as 29 year old San Luis Obispo County resident Joseph Oliver Godfrey. He was booked into the SLO County Jail for one count of vehicle burglary.

The Paso Robles Police reminds residents to lock their homes and vehicles and secure valuables out of sight if possible. Also, report suspicious activity as it is occurring so officers can respond and investigate as needed.

The investigation into this burglary is ongoing. Persons with information about this crime are encouraged to contact the PRPD with information. Those wishing to remain anonymous who have information about these crimes, or other crimes, are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers 24- hour hotline at 549-STOP or by texting “SLOTIPS plus your message” to CRIMES (274637).
