Incumbent Fred Strong is in the lead by 44 votes for his Paso Robles City Council seat, but with 2,261 ballots still to be counted the election is too close to call.

Challenger Jim Reed could pull off enough votes to take the lead. The San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder’s office said the vote counting will resume today.

Candidate Steve Martin has a large enough margin to assure him a council seat.

Here are the votes reported by the San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder:

3,970 – STEVEN W. MARTIN, Self-Employed Businessman
3,357 – FRED STRONG, Incumbent
3,313 – JIM REED
3,163 NICK GILMAN, Incumbent
472 write-in votes cast. JERRY JONES of Paso Robles ran as a write-in candidate and was not on the ballot.
