Fire erupts at apartment on Spring Street

–At approximately 12:13 p.m. Thursday, the Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services responded to a report of an apartment on fire in the 100 block of Spring Street.

Upon arrival firefighters found smoke and flames coming from one unit of a large two-story apartment complex. Firefighters were able to quickly confine the fire to the 1st-floor apartment and ensure that residents were evacuated from adjacent apartments. Additionally, one apartment above the fire suffered moderate smoke damage when a window failed due to the heat.

Two fire engines and two battalion chiefs responded from Paso Robles. Under the city’s automatic aid agreements, one fire engine and one battalion chief from Cal Fire SLO County and one fire engine from Atascadero immediately responded to assist. Additional engines were also called in to assist with three concurrent medical calls within the city. A total of 17 firefighters were required to control the fire. Additional assistance was provided by Paso Robles Police department and San Luis Ambulance Service and the Red Cross.

The fire was contained at approximately 12:35 p.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
