Firefighters respond to smell of burning rubber

Paso Robles firefighters responded late Tuesday night to a complaint of the smell of burning rubber on the westside of town.

After 11:30 p.m., there was a burning rubber smell that was in the area of Vine to Merryhill streets on 12th Street, over to 13th Street and also to 10th Street, a reader reported to the Paso Robles Daily News. The fire department and police were patrolling, shining their lights trying to find the source, the reader said.

Paso Robles Battalion Chief Kevin Taylor confirmed the response to the odor complaint. “After searching for 40 minutes or so they were unable to locate the source but described the smell as burning rubber,” he said. “The firefighters reported that the odor went away shortly after they arrived in the area.”

“It is now 12:40 am and the smell is finally subsiding,” the reader said. “It gave me a headache whatever it was but it was kind of nice socializing with neighbors outside!”
