Five busted for marijuana at Centennial Park

marijuana bustThe Paso Robles Police Department Special Enforcement Team detectives conducted a directed enforcement operation last Wednesday at Centennial Park. Over recent weeks police received numerous complaints of individuals congregating within the park to smoke marijuana. The illegal activity reportedly became increasingly disruptive for those seeking to use the park for legal recreational purposes.

At approximately 3 p.m. plain clothes detectives walked through the park and observed several individuals openly smoking marijuana. During their investigation, detectives made 15 contacts to determine if the subjects were smoking marijuana.

Those contacts resulted in five individuals being detained and/or cited for marijuana related violations:

• Three adults were cited for possession of marijuana, an infraction.
• One juvenile was cited for possession of marijuana, an infraction, and eventually turned over to their parent.
• One female juvenile was under the influence of marijuana and she was also turned over to a parent at the scene.

Police will continue directed enforcement efforts within city parks over ensuing weeks.
