Former resident Ralph Walter Klever dies at 85

Ralph Walter Klever passed away in Grass Valley, CA of kidney failure on September 26, 2014. He was 85. He was born on May 12, 1929 to Carl & Kathrine Klever in Paso Robles, Calif. The second of two sons. He married Linda Elizabeth on Sept. 10, 1955.

Klever was raised on his parent’s farm in the El Pomar farming district of Templeton, CA. Graduated from Templeton High School in 1947. In his work history, he was employed as a farm hand, well driller, telephone lineman, gas station owner, ranch hand in Carissa Plains, CA, before starting his career with Caltrans in Santa Maria, CA. Ralph and Linda moved to Nevada City, CA in 1990 after retiring from his 18 year position as the Caltrans Supervisor in Tahoe City, CA.

He was a son, a bigger yet younger brother, a farm boy, an Army Staff Sargent. A husband of 59 years, great father, wonderful friend, very good provider, wielder of razor sharp pocket knives, amazing hunter, and he often practiced fishing. Had the talent to turn boulders into dust, shade tree mechanic, wheeler dealer, pack rat extraordinaire. An incurable flirt. An amateur weatherman, snowflake chaser and a snowplow boss.

He is survived by his wife Linda E. Klever, Debra Dobbins (Lew), Kirby Klever (JoAnn), Allan Klever (Virginia) Kathy Garcia (David) and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two infant daughters, parents Max Carl & Kathrine Maria Klever, and his brother Carl Christian Klever, there were no other siblings.

A celebration of life memorial will be held on Nov. 15 at the Alta Sierra Country Club, 11897 Tammy Way, Grass Valley, CA. Interment will be held at Trails End Cemetery, Tahoe City CA.
