Garagiste Festival adds new event “The Opening Round”

64 winemakers to pour during Garagiste Festival

Main event in Paso Robles Nov. 7-10

Garagistes (gar-uh-zhē-stuh) is a term originally used in the Bordeaux region of France to denigrate renegade small-lot wine makers, sometimes working in their “garages” (anything considered not a chateau), who refused to follow the “rules,” and is now a full-fledged movement responsible for making some of the best wine in the world.

Paso Robles Garagiste FestivalThe Garagiste Festivals has added The Opening Round, a brand new tasting event, to the line-up of November’s 2013 Garagiste Festival in Paso Robles. That brings the total number of garagiste winemakers pouring hand-crafted, high quality wines during the festival to 64.

The Opening Round showcases 15 outstanding artisan winemakers from across California. The festival also announced two new Southern California “Taste of Garagiste” mini-tastings at The Petersen Automotive Museum and Sonoma Wine Garden in August, featuring winemakers who will be pouring at the November festival. Tickets are now on sale for the festival and “Taste of Garagiste” events at http://www.garagistefestival.com.

The Opening Round, November 8th – 4 – 7pm As part of the four day Garagiste Festival in Paso Robles, The Opening Round showcases 15 outstanding artisan winemakers from across California at the Pavilion on the Lake in Atascadero. Wineries pouring at The Opening Round include: Archium Cellars, Ascension Cellars, Barton Family, Casa Dumetz, Cholame Vineyard, DuBost Winery, Frequency Wines, Michael Gill Cellars, Pence Ranch, PlanB Cellars, Sea Shell Cellars, Turiya Wines and Vinemark Cellars.

The 2013 Garagiste Festival takes place over four days from November 7th – 10th in Paso Robles and includes a multi-winemaker dinner, The Opening Round, “Shiners, Samples & Secrets” mixer, Wine Tasting Seminars, the Grand Tasting, an After Party and a symposium for aspiring winemakers.

The non-profit Garagiste Festivals showcase high-quality, cutting-edge, small production wineries that produce fewer than 1,200 cases a year and have emerged as among the most unique and influential wine events in the US. Named one of the ‘Top Nine Incredible Epicurean Vacations’ in the world by ABC News* and a ‘not to miss’ event by the LA Times, the festivals have introduced over 100 outstanding artisan winemakers to thousands of passionate wine consumers, members of the trade and media, raising the profiles of many of the winemakers nationally for the first time and raising thousands of dollars for the Cal Poly Wine and Viticulture Program.
