J. Lohr pairs up with chocolate maker Lindt

J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines announces a pairings promotion with Lindt

LindtJ. Lohr Vineyards & Wines today announced a fall promotion with premium Swiss chocolatier, Lindt, to pair four wines from the J. Lohr Estates tier with flavors from the Lindt premium dark chocolate collection. This unique national campaign brings together Lindt, the market leader in premium chocolate, with J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines, producer of the top-selling premium Cabernet Sauvignon in the U.S. in the $12-20 price category, to elevate the sensory experience for consumers.

The wine and chocolate pairings, which were thoughtfully selected by 30-year J. Lohr Winemaker Jeff Meier, and Lindt Master Chocolatier Ann Czaja, include: Lindt Excellence 70% Cocoa paired with J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon; Lindt Excellence A Touch of Sea Salt paired with J. Lohr Estates Falcon’s Perch Pinot Noir; Lindt Excellence Chili paired with J. Lohr Estates South Ridge Syrah; Lindt Excellence Intense Orange paired with J. Lohr Estates Bay Mist White Riesling. These four pairings were developed after J. Lohr and Lindt successfully collaborated at this year’s Pebble Beach Food & Wine Festival, where they paired Lindt chocolates with wines from the J. Lohr Vineyard Series for festival attendees.

“Lindt Master Chocolatier Ann Czaja and I share the same passion for our craft, including a deep appreciation for the sensory attributes of wine and chocolate together,” said President, COO and Director of Winemaking Jeff Meier. “We carefully chose our J. Lohr wines to pair with Lindt’s phenomenal chocolate varieties, so that the flavors of each would be heightened, sometimes with a little bit of a surprise. For instance, the sweet citrus profile of Excellence Intense Orange dark chocolate deliciously balances the exotic notes of lychee, pear and orange in our Bay Mist White Riesling.”

To enable consumers to explore these flavor pairings, an individually wrapped Lindt Excellence dark chocolate diamond sample is attached to bottle neckers on select bottles of J. Lohr wines. The bottle-neckers also include pairing information and an instantly redeemable coupon for $1.50 on any one Lindt Excellence bag or two bars (3.5 oz or greater) at retail chain stores, including Kroger, Publix, Gelson’s and CVS, among others. Additionally, October 28th is National Chocolate Day, and J. Lohr will be conducting a Twitter pairings tasting to engage consumers in their favorite wine and chocolate pairings. J. Lohr is also supporting the campaign in its two wine centers in San Jose and Paso Robles, and through individual sampling and pairing opportunities across the country.

“Both J. Lohr and Lindt share an intense dedication to the pursuit of the best flavors,” said Lindt Master Chocolatier Ann Czaja. “We also share the desire to educate consumers about how quality ingredients, paired with innovative flavors, can elevate the sensory experience. Great chocolate and wine pairings provide a wonderfully harmonious experience. They have a synergy that enhances the flavor notes. For example, when pairing Lindt Chili and J. Lohr Estates South Ridge Syrah, they combine to produce a warm burst of cinnamon on the palate. It is exhilarating! We are very excited about this partnership. By joining together, we’ll be able to reach even more consumers and inspire greater enjoyment of their entire chocolate and wine experience.”
