Library hosts art contest for students in grades 6-12 

library art contestAspiring North County artists in grades 6-12 are invited to submit artwork for the Paso Robles City Library’s 8th Annual Brushmarks Juried Art Competition for Teens.

Submissions will be accepted on Wednesday, April 2, in three categories — painting, drawing, and, new this year to commemorate the city’s 125th Anniversary, a special Anniversary Celebration category.

A small entry fee is charged to enter the event. Winners in each category will be selected by Juror Jack Johnson and prizes, donated by Johnson, will be awarded at the Gallery Reception on Friday, April 4. Rules of entry

ARTISTS
North County students, grades 6-12, eligible.

CATEGORIES
Painting, drawing, and new in 2014 to commemorate Paso Robles’ 125th Anniversary, a special category for works that evoke nostalgia for the community’s history.

MEDIA
Oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, pencil, pastel, ink, charcoal, crayon or mixed. No computer graphics.

ENTRIES
Must be original and done by the artist shown on the entry form. Must be matted and backed with Velcro strips, or
framed with wire for heavier pieces. Stretched canvases with finished (painted) edges will be accepted. Maximum size is 18” x 24,” including mat or frame. Pieces must remain in exhibition for duration of exhibit. Artist may choose to make artwork available for purchase.

FEES
$5 for up to 2 entries; make checks payable to the Paso Robles Library Foundation.

SELECTION
Two works by one artist may possibly be selected; others may not be selected at all. Final selection is at the discretion of the juror. Library has the right to refuse works not meeting the rules of entry.

FORMS
The Entry Form is to be submitted upon delivery of artwork. An Entry Tag must be attached to the back of each work.

LIABILITY
Entries will be handled with care. Neither the City Library, the Library Foundation, nor the City of Paso Robles is liable for any damage or loss. Any insurance must be purchased by submitting artist.

Schedule

DELIVERY
Wednesday, April 2, 3 p.m.-6 p.m. Hand delivery only to Library Conference Room ~ 1000 Spring Street, Paso Robles

SELECTION
Thursday, April 3. No spectators, please. Artists will be notified by phone.

PICK UP OF NON-SELECTED WORKS
Friday, April 4 through Saturday, May 3 (Children’s Desk area)

RECEPTION AND AWARDS
Friday, April 4, 5:30pm – 6:30pm (Library Conference Room)

EXHIBIT
Selected artwork will be on display in the Library the month of April and may be picked up Thursday, May 1 through Saturday, May 3, during open hours (Children’s Desk area).

If not claimed within two weeks, artwork becomes property of the Library and may be disposed
