Library hosts ‘BookPlates!’ fundraiser Nov. 16

BookPlates! features hand-painted plates, food, beer, wine and jazz

The Paso Robles Library Foundation is hosting an artists and celebrity plate auction gala on Sat. Nov. 16 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Paso Robles Library. The public is invited to come out and support the Paso Robles Library and its programs.

The event will showcase hand-painted plates, serve food, beer and wine. A local Jazz band will be playing for entertainment. Tickets are $40 and available at

Some of California’s most talented artists and some surprising celebrities will create original works of art on dinner-sized ceramic plates. All of the platemakers are given a kit with a blank plate and a palette of glazes. The participating artists normally work in a range of media from printmaking to painting to sculpture. Translating their individual craft onto ceramic plates will produce a stunning collection.

“We were blown away by the plates when we received them from the artists for our inaugural BookPlates!”, said event co-chair Kate Morgans, “They started with the same blank plate and created a diverse array of gallery-quality art. Whether they are hung in your office lobby, spotlighted over your fireplace, or used to serve dessert at your next dinner party, you will want to own more than one.” For a preview of the beautiful, one-of-a-kind, hand painted plates, check out our BookPlates! 2013 album on Facebook! at

Guests will enjoy a gourmet tasting menu prepared by Chef Jeff Wiesinger of Jeffrys Catering, and sip award-winning local wines and brew. Swinging jazz and laid back Brazilian sounds by popular band Human Nation, accompanied by Grammy-winning vocalist John Laird, will provide the musical soundtrack for the evening. Tickets are available online at, at the Paso Robles Library check-out desk, and at the event.

“In addition to the art, this will be a fabulous night out, not to mention it will be one time you won’t be scolded for eating, drinking, or dancing in the library,” said event co-chair, Kassy Brohaugh.

The plates will be sold throughout the evening in a silent auction format. Most of the plates will have a starting bid of $50, although a select group of celebrity plates and plates that are bundled with special items will have a higher starting bid.

Since 1997, the Paso Robles Library Foundation has raised over $500,000 to augment the City’s budget for the Library. Spending is focused on expanding the collection, programs for adults and children, and helping our community keep pace with a changing world. We work to make the Paso Robles City Library the envy of its peers and an invaluable asset to our Community.
