Local high school students to compete in state rodeo finals 

Kadin Javadi, a high school student from Paso Robles- will compete in Boys Cutting, Tie Down Roping.

–Local high school students, grades 9-12, competed in eight rodeos during the 2018-2019 school year as members of California High School Rodeo Association, District 7, and the National High School Rodeo Association. Contestants have been competing for points in their rodeo events throughout the year and the top five in each event are moving on to compete at the CHSRA High School State Finals in Bishop, CA June 9 – 15, where all 9 districts of CHSRA will be represented.

CHSRA District 7 includes Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties. Rodeo events include Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Goat Tying, Breakaway Roping, Tie Down Roping, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Bull Riding, Boys Cutting, Girls Cutting, and Reined Cow Horse. Each district is also represented by a rodeo queen who earned her crown by competing in horsemanship, written knowledge test, modeling, and speaking. In addition, any member in good standing at the end of the rodeo year, may compete in .22 Light Rifle and Trap Shooting.

In order to remain eligible throughout the year, CHSRA members must remain in good standing which includes maintaining a 2.0 G.P.A. While at the State Finals, competitors have the option to also compete in a .22 Light Rifle and Trap Shooting competitions as well. Of the approximately 45 competitors in each event, only 4 will qualify in each event for the National High School Finals Rodeo which be held in Rock Springs, Wyoming, July 14 -20.

Kate Dennish, a 9th grader from Paso Robles- will compete in Barrel Racing.

The High School State Finals is run as a progressive four round event. Each contestant will compete in two “Go Rounds” Tuesday through Thursday. The third Go Round is progressive with the top 30 contestants competing on Friday. The Finals, or the “Short Go,” will be held Saturday with the top 15 contestants competing for the State Title and qualifications to Nationals.
