Local team of 4th graders attend global tournament 

Almond Acres Charter Academy’s ReadySetGo! Destination Imagination Team attended the Destination Imagination Global Finals Tournament in Knoxville, TN, May 23 through May 26, 2018. They were joined by more than 1,400 teams from 38 U.S. states, six Canadian provinces, and 19 countries. The team of fourth-grade students placed 9th out of 78 teams in their category.

ReadySetGo! competed in the Project Outreach/Service Learning Challenge. For their service project they chose to raise funds for Lifewater International. The team received first place at the Regional Tournament on Feb. 24 and was also awarded the Torch Bearer Award, an honor for teams whose solutions have had extraordinary impact in and beyond the local community. At the State Tournament on April 7 in Clovis, CA, they earned their invitation to Global Finals. The team members are: Lauren Fash, John “Jack” Hamon, Van Ogorsolka, Hayden Perhach, and Kaile’a Stoltzfus.

The trip was made possible by generous individuals and sponsors who helped cover the cost of tournament fees and travel expenses. Sponsors included Carole Talen of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Hallmark Realty, Cold Stone Creamery of Paso Robles, Hamon Overhead Door Co., LuLaRoe Val Walla, Mankey Family Chiropractic, Stout Pediatric Dentistry, The Laundromat by Swish and Swirl, Uncorked Compliance, and Zenaida Cellars.
