Program helps build affordable housing

Women throughout San Luis Obispo County are coming together to construct homes with Habitat for Humanity for San Luis Obispo County (HFHSLOCO) during the 2013 Women Build Week, June 18 – 22. A crew of women volunteers will help HFHSLCO complete a three home affordable housing development on Rockview Place in San Luis Obispo.

The Women Build program, underwritten by Lowe’s, brings women from all walks of life together to learn construction skills and then use those skills to help provide much needed affordable housing in our county. The Lowe’s in Paso Robles will be offering the next free clinic, “Installing Drywall & Windows” on June 1 from 9 am until noon. Lowe’s also generously donated $50,000 towards the construction of the Rockview homes.

The homes on Rockview Place will add to the more than 1900 Habitat for Humanity Women Build projects throughout the United States since 2010. Through the Women Build program, Habitat for Humanity for San Luis Obispo County and Lowe’s commit to redefining home making by placing the tools to provide affordable housing in the hands of women.

Volunteers of all skill levels are encouraged to call 805-782-0687 to get involved.
