Lois Capps wins re-election in close race

Congresswoman Lois Capps

US Congresswoman Lois Capps (D-Santa Barbara) defeated Republican challenger Chris Mitchum in Tuesday’s general election, the California Secretary of State reports.

Capps won with 75,307 votes to Mitchum’s 70,673 votes, giving her the edge, 51.6-percent to 48.3-percent. Capps will return to her seat representing the 24th District in the US House of Representatives, which she has held since 1998.

She represents Paso Robles and all of San Luis Obispo County, Santa Barbara County and a part of  Ventura County.
