A letter to Santa Claus from Edna and Venia Miner of Adelaide
Adelaide, Dec. 13, 1892
Santa Claus — I and my little sister thought we would write you a letter and tell you how much we thank you for the many presents you have brought to us every year, and hope you will not forget any poor little children this year; so if you have not enough presents to give to all the poor little children, you will give the presents you have for us to them, for we know our papa and mamma and sisters will give us some, as they always do. But, if you have more than enough to go all around, we will be very glad and thankful for them, but we would feel sorry if we knew of a poor little girl or boy that did not get a Christmas present.
I am 8 years old and go to school. My sister is 6. She studies at home. We asked mamma where Santa Claus lived. She told us we would have to send our letter to The Moon, and as we do not know where cars are that go to The Moon, we thought we would send it to the editor of The Moon, and we think he must love little girls and will send this letter to Santa Claus and oblige to little Adelaide girls.
My little sister and I are going to give some presents to some poor little girls and boys we know.
Edna and Venia Miner

This “Looking Back” view at Paso Robles history comes from one of the hundreds of local newspapers in the Paso Robles Area Historical Society collection. Several local newspapers, dating from the 1800s, have reported on local, national and world events, providing priceless historical views of our community that are not available from any other source. The Historical Society is seeking community support for the multi-phased Newspaper Preservation Project to help fund the transfer of these aged and fragile pages to microfilm and digital images. See the society website for more information about becoming a member or donating to any phase of this project.
The Paso Robles Daily News is pleased to support this important project. Watch this space for future “Looking Back” articles.
