Maia Sharp, Garrison Starr, and AG play June 9

Maia Sharp, Garrison Starr and AG are touring together, sharing the featured set showcase at June 9 at Sculpterra Winery. “We follow the writers-in-the-round format trading songs,” Maia says, “But unlike many rounds, we all sing and play on each other’s songs making it feel more like a band show where the energy never lets up.”

Maia is not only a gifted singer, she’s a prodigious songwriter who has written songs for such artists as Bonnie Raitt, the Dixie Chicks, Trisha Yearwood, Lisa Loeb, Edwin McCain, and Art Garfunkel. She has appeared on NPR’s All Things Considered, Mountain Stage, Acoustic Café, World Café, CBS Early Morning, and the Today Show, and she recently released her fifth album, Change the Ending, which allmusic.com calls “heartfelt and rousing” and “poignant and poetic.” Along with her singing and songwriting talents, Maia also plays a mean sax.

Garrison Starr has released seven albums, and played the first two Lilith Fair tours. Her latest CD, “Amateur”, includes a duet with Mary Chapin Carpenter. Garrison has worked with such artists as Kevin Devine, Mindy Smith, and Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket, and her songs have appeared on television programs including The Hills and Pretty Little Liars.

AG grew up in Miami, earned a degree in music production and engineering from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career that has so far produced eight albums and landed her music on such television shows as Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill, and Gossip Girl. Inspired by artists like Jewel and the Indigo Girls, she plays piano and guitar, and sings her own impassioned originals, which occupy the indie territory at the intersection of folk, rock, and pop.

Special guests on June 9 include Pi Jacobs, Ynana Rose, Jean Butterfield, and Melody Guy.

Songwriters At Play holds showcases every Sunday afternoon, 1–4 p.m. at Sculpterra Winery, 5015 Linne Road, Paso Robles, 805-226-8881. The showcase includes a featured act and others playing 4-song sets. We pass the tip jar during the featured set, otherwise no cover. All ages are welcome.
