Paso Robles Mayor Duane Picanco announced this week his plan to not run for re-election, but rather to run for a city council seat in November’s election.

“I am proud to have served the people of Paso Robles as their mayor for the many years,” Picanco said in a statement released by his campaign. “I have enjoyed being the spokesman for all Roblan’s and conducting the city council meetings.

“The council, under my guidance, has reduced spending. The city’s budget reflects a positive cash flow. We have begun to increase/restore the police department and are beginning the much needed road repairs. However, after much discussion with my family, I have decided it is time to have a new voice leading our great city forward.

“I believe that there are many partially finished projects that still require the background knowledge and experience that I possess. I would like to focus my next four years in a new position as city councilman for Paso Robles. This will allow me the time to work on the completion of these projects and resolve the ground water basin issues in my position as the city LAFCO representative.

“I have been a member of the city council for many years. I cannot imagine not actively serving our city so I have decided to ask the people of Paso Robles to vote for me as their city council Representative. I look forward to working together for the continued betterment of Paso Robles.”
