Movie night at Colony Park Community Center features Goonies

GooniesThe City of Atascadero is presenting a free outdoor movie night with a presentation of “The Goonies” at the Colony Park Community Center on Saturday, Aug. 30. There will be music and games beginning at 7 p.m., and the movie will start at about 8 p.m. on an outdoor screen located behind the Community Center at 5599 Traffic Way in Atascadero. While the event is directed towards the teens of the community, everyone is encouraged to bring their family and friends and join in an evening of action packed entertainment and fun.

Parents should be aware that “The Goonies”, which has a PG rating, is a rambunctious, noisy, pirate-themed treasure-hunt action-fantasy. The kid-characters find themselves in all kinds of peril, are being hunted by thieves who are after their treasure map, find a dead body and fall into all kinds of trouble. Beyond the special effects, cavernous sets, stunts, hideous skeletons, and outsized props, there’s a message about being yourself and bonding with your friends and siblings — even if they’re outcasts.

The movie is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket, low-back chair, and the family to relish the last of the summer evenings. Popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase. For more information, please visit www.atascadero.org or call (805) 470-3360.
