New Atascadero K9 police dog being sworn in

The City of Atascadero and the Atascadero Police Department is inviting the public to the swearing in ceremony of its newest K9 police dog “Pit”. Pit will be joined at this ceremony by his new partner Officer Christopher Hester.

The purchase of “Pit”, and his subsequent training, was made possible largely through donations from the public. “The Atascadero Police Department would like to say thank you and give members of the public an opportunity to meet Pit in person before he goes into active service,” says Atascadero Sergeant Jason Carr in a press release.

Recently, members of the Atascadero Kiwanis, Atascadero Elks and the Atascadero Masonic Lodge all participated in a fundraiser for the Atascadero Police K9 Foundation. Representatives from these organizations will be on hand to present the Atascadero Police K9 Foundation with a check from the money raised at the event. The Police Department is grateful for their selfless service to the program, Carr says.

The ceremony will take place on the steps of the Atascadero City Hall this Thursday, May 21, at 9:15 a.m.
