Paso Robles man wins $543,000 lawsuit over knee surgery
A Paso Robles man was awarded a $543,000 judgement recently in a medical negligence lawsuit brought against the Coastal Surgical Institute in Pismo Beach, according to reports.
Charles Blevins, 66, accused the center of negligence in a deep-tissue infection that followed a 2010 knee operation at the surgical center owned by Dignity Health and the majority of the physicians who work there. Dignity Health operates French Hospital in San Luis Obispo and Arroyo Grande Community Hospital.
The lawsuit filed by Blevins’ attorney, Jeffrey Stulberg, says surgical instruments used in the surgery were contaminated with bacteria, which led to an infection.
Three days after the surgery on his right knee, he reported a fever and severe pain. He went to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center and underwent another surgery and was treated with antibiotics. Since then, he has had two additional surgeries and a complete knee replacement operation.
