Paso Robles school board votes to eliminate furlough days
The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees voted Tuesday night to eliminate all remaining furlough days in the coming 2014-15 school year. This action will reinstate a normal work and school year for all of Paso Robles’ staff and students for the first time in four years.
The decision to eliminate furlough days has been a high priority for the board since furloughs were first implemented in 2011, says Ashley Lightfoot, the district’s spokesperson.
“We’re very happy to have recovered financially to a point where we are able to completely eliminate furlough days from the calendar,” said Katy Griffin, school district board president, in a statement issued Friday. “The removal of furlough days will help our district move forward toward improving educational services for all students in the district.”
President Griffin added that on behalf of the board of trustees, she would like to thank district staff, students, and parents for their sacrifice over the last four years.
