Police increase traffic enforcement with start of school

School starts Wednesday, Aug. 20

when does school startBeginning Wednesday motorists are reminded to use additional caution when driving in or near school zones within the City of Paso Robles. The Paso Robles Police Department issued a press release saying they will be starting off the school year with maximum traffic enforcement and awareness efforts within city school zones. The Paso Robles Police Department says they want to ensure the safety of students as they travel to and from school.

The new school year always brings traffic congestion in school zones and surrounding areas. Parents are encouraged to teach their children to cross roadways at a corner, preferably at crossing guard locations, not mid-block or from between parked vehicles. Police officers will be deployed throughout the city’s school zones to help ensure student safety and reduce traffic congestion.

The Paso Robles Police Department will strictly enforce school zone related traffic violations such as: seat belt violations; distracted driving/cell phone use; flashing school bus light violations; speed violations and parking violations. Officers will also be monitoring pedestrian and bicycle traffic for violations. Enforcement efforts are designed to remind motorists that school is back in session and traffic safety is a priority. Depending upon the severity of the traffic violation officers may issue warnings or citations.
