Paso Robles sports update: Waterpolo, basketball, diving

Girls water polo

Over the weekend the Bearcats faced the Arroyo Grande Eagles in the Mountain league finals game held at Nipomo High School. In the game, the Eagles took a five to zero lead at the end of the 1st quarter.  Arroyo Grande added two more goals in the second to take a seven to zero lead at the half. In the 3rd quarter, the Bearcats were able to score with Leanna Reed scoring three goals in the quarter. The Bearcats continued to create scoring chances but the strong defense of the Eagles did not allow any other goals. Arroyo Grande added six more goals to end the game 13 to three final score. In the game for Paso Robles, Leanna Reed scored three goals and Kaitlyn Hebrard gave another outstanding effort in goal adding another 17 saves to her season total.

Girls varsity basketball

Paso Robles High School Girls Varsity Basketball lost to Bakersfield Christian 55-44 last week. The leading score for Bearcats was Hailey Abel with 11 points and Xena Stanko with 10 points. The next scheduled game will be held at home vs. Atascadero Greyhounds on April 22 at 6 p.m., at Gil Asa Gym.

Bearcat diving

On Monday the Bearcat Diving Team traveled to Santa Ynez high school to compete in the Bearcats first diving competition of the 2021 spring season.  Freshman Bennett Reed competing in his first meet placed 4th for the Bearcats. Returning divers sophomore Ashleynn Bean and senior Sage Adams gave strong performances in their first meet back from last seasons’ cancellation. Ashleynn placed second with a personal best score of 140.75. Sage Adams’ strong performance earned her 1st place in Monday’s meet. Sage’s score of 224.25 proved to be her personal best for a six-dive event.
