Templeton offers green waste chipping days

templeton water restrictionsResidents living within the Templeton Community Services District’s boundaries may sign up for a free Spring Clean-Up Chipping Program, sponsored by the Fire Safe Council and the Templeton Community Services District.

The event runs Monday, April 28th through Friday, May 2nd. Residents may sign up via a form in their April TCSD utility bill or at the District office located at 420 Crocker Street, Templeton. Signups will not be taken after April 21, 2014. Residents must follow the below listed requirements:

  • Material to be chipped must be clean yard waste without metal, nails, barbwire, garbage, rocks, animal waste, etc.
  • Not allowed: Poison oak, grass, palm fronds, yucca, vines, piles of leaves, juniper bushes, processed lumber and non-vegetation materials.
  • Branches cannot be thicker than 4-inches in diameter or seasoned {dry); and should be at least four-feet in length.
  • Piles cannot be greater than 1 ton (approximately 15ft. wide x 15ft. long x 5 ft. high).
  • All material must be piled near the curb {road frontage) by the first morning of the event.

Chipping is a healthy, safe and economical alternative to backyard burning which is now prohibited due to Air Pollution Control District requirements. An added bonus is that chips may be used in landscape to slow water evaporation, replenish nutrients in the soil, and spruce up the look of the yard.
