Templeton ‘Safe and Sane’ fireworks guidelines

templeton fireworks guidelines–Only Safe N’ Sane fireworks are allowed within the Templeton Community Services District. The Fire Department recommends adult supervisions when fireworks are discharged.

The sale and discharge of Safe and Sane Fireworks is limited from noon on July 1st to midnight on July 4th.

Below are a few safety tips, as submitted by the Templeton Community Services District:

  • Always read and follow the directions on each firework before using it.
  • Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks.
  • Always have an adult supervise fireworks activities. Parents don’t realize that young children suffer injuries from sparklers. Sparklers burn at temperatures of about 2,000 degrees – hot enough to melt some metals.
  • Never place any part of your body directly over a fireworks device when lighting the fuse. Back up to a safe distance immediately after lighting fireworks.
  • Possession of illegal fireworks is a misdemeanor and punishable by up to one year in County jail and a fine of $1,000.
  • Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not ignited fully.
  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person.
  • Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy in case of fire or other mishap.
  • Light fireworks one at a time, then move back quickly.
  • Never carry fireworks in a pocket or shoot them off in metal or glass containers.
  • After fireworks complete their burning, douse the spent device with plenty of water from a bucket or hose before discarding it to prevent a trash fire.

Illegal fireworks may not be discharged within the Templeton CSD boundaries. Firecrackers, cherry bombs, and bottle rockets are all examples of illegal fireworks. Illegal fireworks can cause wildfires, roof fires and serious injuries.

There is zero tolerance for the sale and use of illegal fireworks. Violation will result in a misdemeanor citation with a $1,000 fine. Illegal fireworks may be turned into the Templeton Fire Department at 206 Fifth St. during business hours without consequence.

For those who want to kick off their holiday early, the Templeton Fire Department Firefighters will host their annual pancake breakfast before the parade. The event starts at 7 a.m., and tickets are priced at $8 adults and $5 for children 10 and under. Proceeds go to the Firefighters Association Fund, which sponsors local youth groups, Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation and other worthy causes. The event is popular and presale tickets are recommended.
