Twin Cities Hospital earns multiple awards and accreditations

Twin Cities Hospital

Twin Cities Community Hospital earned multiple national accreditations and awards in 2013. Here is a summary of them:

January 2013 – Twin Cities Community Hospital received a Center of Excellence designation from CIGNA for their strong commitment to high quality patient care and efficiency measures that exceed nationally recognized standards. Twin Cities Community Hospital was recognized for cesarean section, knee replacement and vaginal delivery. These quality designations are based in part of a hospital’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare measures, Leapfrog Patient Safety Measures, and mortality and complication rates, and enable patients to identify hospitals that provide an outstanding patient experience.

May 2013 – Twin Cities Community Hospital received a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography (CT) by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and its Committee on Computed Tomography Accreditation. The Gold Seal award recognizes the highest level of computed tomography (CT) image quality and patient care. The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 34,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

September 2013 – Twin Cities received the Gold-Plus award for Heart Failure care by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association in the U.S. News and World Reports for excellence in implementing the Get With The Guidelines – Heart Failure program. Get With The Guidelines® Heart Failure is an in-hospital program for improving care by promoting consistent adherence to the latest scientific treatment guidelines.

November 2013 – Twin Cities Hospital was the only hospital in SLO County to receive recognition from the accrediting agency, the Joint Commission, as a Top Performer in Key Quality Measures® in heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care. The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America, gives the Top Performer designation to hospitals that are leading the way nationally in accountability performance and in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions. According to The Joint Commission Annual Report on Quality and Safety 2013, Twin Cities Community Hospital represents one of 1,099 Joint Commission-accredited hospitals (or 33% of all its accredited hospitals).

April and December 2013 – In 2013, Twin Cities Community Hospital was awarded its third and fourth consecutive “A” Hospital Safety Score SM based on an A – F scale on preventable medical errors, injuries accidents, and infections. The Hospital Safety Score provides biannual updates in April and October of each year and is calculated under the guidance of the Leapfrog Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, using the only peer-reviewed hospital grading system in the United States. Twin Cities has been awarded an “A” in all 4 reports to-date. The hospital is in the top 32nd percentile of the nation to receive this top grade for medical safety.
