Two local restaurants win Wine Spectator Award of Excellence

Il Cortile Ristorante in downtown and The Restaurant at Justin Vineyards on the far westside of Paso Robles are being honored with a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. The announcement was made in advance of Wine Spectator Magazine’s August 31 issue, which will feature all winners and will focus on cuisine.

Wine Spectator Awards of Excellence inform thousands of wine lovers and gourmands how to travel and dine across the country. According to their website, the awards “recognize restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers.” Additionally, winning wine lists typically include 100 or more wines.

“Winning this award is especially thrilling because we started so small almost five years ago,” says Il Cortile’s Carole MacDonal, who owns the Italian restaurant with her husband and chef Santos MacDonal.

“At the time, all we offered were 27 bottles of local wine and a handful of Italian bottles. Today, we have over 250.”

She adds, “Qualifying for this award has been a passion for me, and really fun. It is a pleasure to pair such wonderful wines with Santos’ dishes and see our guests enjoy them as well!”
