Vehicle fire stalls Labor Day weekend traffic on Highway 46 East
Vehicle and vegetation fire at Highway 46 near Union Road
On Monday at 1:05 p.m., two companies of Paso Robles firefighters and a battalion chief responded to a vehicle fire that extended into roadside vegetation on Highway 46 near Union Road in Paso Robles.
Firefighters arrived at scene to find a passenger vehicle fully involved in fire and extending into roadside vegetation. First arriving fire department resources extinguished the vehicle fire and quickly put out the vegetation fire. The fire was contained at 1:21 p.m.
The vehicle was a total loss and less than one-quarter of an acre of vegetation burned. The driver of the vehicle suffered very minor injuries and was treated by Paso Robles fire firefighter/paramedics; the patient declined transport to a hospital. No firefighter injuries were reported.
The incident caused significant delays on Highway 101 and Highway 46 for approximately 40 minutes.
A total of 15 firefighters from the Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services and Cal Fire/San Luis Obispo County Fire responded to the fire. Paso Robles Police Department provided traffic control.
