Visit SLO County moves to downtown Paso

Visit San Luis Obispo County, the region’s marketing and tourism agency, has moved offices from its El Capitan Way location in south San Luis Obispo to downtown Paso Robles. The new office is located at 835 12th Street, just above Sole Tree and La Cosecha Bar and Restaurant.

The recent move is attributed to the ongoing development and evolution of the organization. “We simply found that more and more of our employees are based in North County,” said Stacie Jacob, Visit San Luis Obispo County executive director. “We are a marketing agency for all of San Luis Obispo County tourism, and with new virtual technologies we are able to perform our marketing functions from pretty much anywhere. Additionally, our new location allows us to be situated in the heart of our award-winning wine country, which is a major feature of our destination’s tourism industry.”

Visit San Luis Obispo County runs a wide range of marketing programs that feature some of the biggest attractions on the Central Coast. These include the San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles wine country, recently named “Wine Region of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast Magazine, Hearst Castle in San Simeon, beautiful beaches and charming coastal communities, and the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center, among other popular attractions.

Upcoming programs for the organization include Restaurant Month, to be launched in January 2014. This yearly promotion is in its seventh year and will incorporate more than 40 restaurants countywide, most featuring a three-course prix fixe menu for $30. Restaurant Month is one of many programs that encourage travelers to visit San Luis Obispo County and take advantage of an array of activities and lodging specials available during the shoulder season months.

Visit San Luis Obispo County, in partnership with Sunset Magazine, also produces and manages Sunset SAVOR the Central Coast, a nationally recognized, four-day food, wine and lifestyle event to be held September 25-28, 2014.

Additional marketing actions taken throughout the year by Visit San Luis Obispo County include promoting the destination at targeted industry trade shows, developing group sales, meetings and conferences, promoting domestic and international leisure travel to the area, working with journalists and media through public relations to develop exposure for the destination, and also serving as the official Film Commission for San Luis Obispo County.

Visit San Luis Obispo County maintains a range of strategic professional partnerships and works closely with Visit California, the state’s tourism marketing organization, as well as Brand USA, the national tourism development office, to leverage resources and promotional opportunities for the destination.

“Our goal is to keep San Luis Obispo County on the map for tourists,” said Jacob. “Whether visitors seek coastal, cultural, or culinary experiences, we are trying to help people come to the realization that we are not just a stop along the way to the major cities. We can be a full multi-day itinerary. There’s something for everyone in San Luis Obispo County and we invite you to join us and experience Pure Play.”

Tourism is the number one industry in San Luis Obispo County employing 15,570 persons throughout the region, and continues to be one of the area’s leading economic drivers.
