Volunteers feed the homeless after rainstorm

Sonja Jackson greets hungry Paso Roblans with a free lunch Monday at the Second Baptist Church in Paso Robles.

More than twenty people, some of whom had slept outdoors during the weekend rainstorms, were greeted with hot food Monday at Second Baptist Church in Paso Robles. After the wet weekend, an anxious group waited for the doors to open.

Volunteer Sonja Jackson prepared fried chicken, corn, mash potatoes and gravy. The church buys staples at the SLO County Food Bank and volunteers come each day to prepare lunch in the church kitchen. She cooks for the hungry of Paso Robles every other Monday.
Next week she said she’s planning her famous meatloaf. She also operates Jackson’s Old and New in San Miguel.

Second Baptist Church provides free meals from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each weekday. They offer showers to the homeless on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The church is located at 1937 Riverside Ave., near the Paso Robles Events Center.
