Wasco earthquake rattles North County
A 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck Wasco, Calif. yesterday afternoon at 4:02 p.m., according to the US Geological Survey. The temblor could be felt 80 miles to the west in north San Luis Obispo County, where buildings shook and rolled. Wasco is 22 miles WNW of Bakersfield, Calif.
The shallow quake struck at a depth of .3 miles. In the past 10 days, there has been one earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
There were no immediate reports of damage, though quakes of this magnitude can cause damage of varying severity to poorly constructed buildings.
