Update: Watch and listen as Bearcats face Panthers in CIF Championship

Parking will be available at the Paso Robles Event Center for Friday’s game. The event center is located at 2198 Riverside Ave, Paso Robles. A shuttle will run about every 10 minutes from 6-11 p.m. While the walk from the event center is only about five minutes, the sidewalk is not continuous and the path on the west side of the bridge over the train tracks can be hazardous. There are several hundred parking spots available at the event center.

The Paso Robles Bearcats (12-1 overall, 3-1 PAC 5 League) will host the Newbury Park High School Panthers (11-2 overall, 3-0 Camino League) in the CIF Southern Section, Northern Division, Championship football game this Friday, Dec. 5 at Paso Robles’ War Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Panthers, currently ranked 3rd in the Max Preps Southern California Division III play-off poll, defeated Righetti High School (56-28) in the first round of play-offs, St. Joseph High School (42-26) in a second round, and Atascadero High School (49-48) in a semi-final game last Friday night. With a high-powered offense averaging 470 yards per game, the Panthers are led by senior quarterback Daniel Prieto with 235 completions on 337 attempts for 3,557 total passing yards. Prietto’s favorite targets are sophomore Darnay Holmes with 1,349 receiving yards on 87 receptions, and senior Darick Holmes with 725 receiving yards on 46 receptions. On the ground, the Panthers will rely on senior running back Matthew Matlock who has compiled 1,301 rushing yards on 181 carries.

The Bearcats, currently ranked 2nd in the Max Preps Southern California Division III play-off poll, are coming off a 28-21 victory over Arroyo Grande Eagles in a semi-final game this past Friday. Previously, the Bearcats defeated Royal High School of Simi Valley 42-14 in a first round playoff game, and won a 49-16 victory against Palmdale High School in the second round. They will bring a potent offense averaging 393 yards per game. Leading the way is junior quarterback Jusin Davis averaging 193 passing yards per game. Senior Bailey Gaither has been his primary target, hauling in 69 receptions for 1,453 yards.

The game will be broadcast on KPRL 1230 AM, with Jim Wiemann and Bill Stansbury calling the game. Fox Sports will also livestream the game at www.foxsports.com/west/prepzone-stream.

Tickets can be purchased at the Paso Robles High School Athletic Office on Tuesday 12:30-4:00 p.m., and Wednesday-Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate. The gates at War Memorial Stadium will open for ticket sales and spectators at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
