Search underway for bear-napped truffles

Missing bearRocky Mountain Chocolate Factory staff members are devastated to report the loss of their long time friend, Truffles the Bear. Truffles is a cute, cuddly, stuffed Kodiak bear who has spent the past 11 years sitting outside the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory at 1106 Pine Street.

The bear was last seen around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7 offering that silent, stoic company that so many visitors love. Truffles, and others like him across the country, serve as a mascot at all the company’s stores.

In the space of a few seconds, a brazen bear napping occurred and Truffles was snatched from his perch and whisked away. In the blink of an eye, Truffles was gone…

Patricia Harden, manager, has filed a police report and is offering a 10-pound candy bar for Truffles’ safe return. She describes the missing bear as about 40 inches tall, nearly as wide, quiet and, “really darn cute.” He was last seen attached to a wrought iron chair, wearing a maroon apron stating “If God wanted me thin Chocolate would be a vegetable” and a navy blue shirt claiming “Will work for Chocolate!”

The missing bear is valued around $300.

Patrons are already inquiring about the bear’s whereabouts. Patricia Harden says he is a staple of their store, a friend to all customers. Anyone who knows Truffles’ whereabouts is asked to call the store at (805) 22-.7598. It is open from 10 a.m to 10 p.m.
