Firefighters respond to grass fire in Dresser Ranch

Sandy Creek Fire 1

Fire burned between one and two acres.

Air tankers dropped retardant between fire and neighboring property

-Cal Fire and the Paso Robles Fire Department responded to a grass fire on Sandy Creek road in the Dresser Ranch area east of Paso Robles at 6:12 pm Tuesday evening. Neighbors in the rural community were already on site with water hoses and shovels when the first fire truck arrived. Two air tankers and an air attack airplane were also dispatched. The tankers dropped retardant between the flames and neighboring property.

Battalion Chief Steve Crawford said the fire burned between one and two acres and the cause of the fire is unknown at the time. The fire was under control within a few minutes of the first fire engine arriving. The first engine on the scene was from the Paso Robles Fire Department. Cal Fire and Paso Robles firefighters have an “auto aid” agreement to assist one another.

Hand crew remains on the scene

Crawford said the neighborhood response helped get the fire under control and prevent it from spreading. Hand crews remained on the scene to clear space around the burn area and make sure all of the fire is out. Crawford said he expected the fire crew to continue their safety measures until 8 or 9 pm.
