City: Beware of misleading letter on water insurance

Screen Shot 2013-04-09 at 7.56.21 AMSeveral City of Paso Robles officials have received letters from American Water Resources Insurance Services stating that the company will be sending letters to Paso Robles homeowners advising them they can obtain insurance to cover repairs to their sewer and water lines.

These letters may give homeowners the mistaken impression that the City is endorsing the offer and/or that homeowners should get insurance to cover the City’s water and wastewater systems. Please be advised that these letters are being sent independently by the insurance company and have no connection whatsoever with the City of Paso Robles.

The City owns, operates and maintains the water and wastewater systems, which include all of the main lines in public rights-of way. City water and wastewater fees pay for the maintenance of these systems. The insurance being offered by American Water Resources Insurance Services would cover only those water or wastewater lines that run through private property and connect to the City’s system. If you have any questions, please contact the City’s Water Resources Manager, Christopher Alakel, at 805-237-3861.
