George Earl McGilligan dies at 87

–Paso Robles resident George Earl McGilligan, Jr, beloved dad, grandfather and a friend to all passed away peacefully on Jan. 18, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family.George Earl McGilligan

McGilligan was born in Norway, Michigan in September 1928. When old enough he worked for Chicago-Northwestern Railroad as a clerk and then Telegrapher. He joined the Navy where he served on the USS LST 938 during the Korean War staying in the Navy and Reserves for 6 years.

McGilligan moved to Hermosa Beach, Calif. where he started work for Northrop Corporation and met his future wife, Patricia. They married in June 1957 and lived a happy and content life until parted by the passing of Pat in December 2008. He was a very devoted husband, he was Pat’s 24/7 carer for nearly all of 2008 rarely leaving her side.

McGilligan loved the outdoors and everything to do with nature in enjoying camping, rock-hounding, fishing and boating. He played trumpet and baritone. He was an avid stamp and coin collector. He loved to build model planes and worked on restoring a Ford Model A car.

Friends and family will know him as a very kind hearted and generous gentleman, and a gentleman he was. He gave to many charities, those involving children always closest to heart. He would lend a helping hand to anyone, where ever it was needed. You would often find him telling jokes, and if those blue eyes really began to twinkle you might be in for a practical joke.

The Masonic principles of Brotherly love, Relief and Truth were practiced by McGilligan and he was very proud to be a member of King David’s Lodge, SLO., Royal Arch Masons, Cryptic Masons of California, Commandery Knights Templar, Shriners International and Corona Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and supported the International Order of the Rainbow for girls.

McGilligan is survived by his Daughter Janet (Ian) Plested and granddaughter, Georgina.
