Honor Flight sending more veteran to Washington DC
“They fought together as brothers-in-arms. They died together and now they sleep side by side. To them we have a solemn obligation.”
-Adm. Chester Nimitz
On Sept. 30, 22 World War II Veterans with an average age of 93 along with a compliment of guardians will leave San Luis Obispo Regional Airport to visit their memorials in Washington D.C. They will return on Oct. 2. As always, members of the local American Legion Posts, Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts, Vietnam Veterans of America and Patriot Guard Riders will be on hand for the flag lines at the sendoff and return. Families of the Veterans and guardians as well as the general public are welcome to attend.
This is the second flight organized solely by the newly formed Honor Flight Central Coast California. The cost of the flights, meals, lodging and transportation for the veterans were paid by generous donation from Central Coast individuals, private organizations and businesses. Guardians paid their own expenses. The flights are on U.S. Airways, who is a generous supporter of the Honor Flight program.
If you know a World War II Veteran who would like to make the trip, wish to donate to this worthy cause or want to be a guardian, go to HonorFlightCCC.org and complete the online application and mail it to Honor Flight CCC, P.O. Box 1750, Paso Robles, CA 93441.
For questions contact Honor Flight CCC Chairperson Bear McGill at (805) 610-4012.
