Templeton attorney Jordan Cunningham, a Republican, on Tuesday night won the race for 35th District State Assembly. He beat Democrat Dawn Ortiz-Legg in a hotly contested race.

According to results from the California Secretary of State, Cunningham earned 71,721 votes, or 54.6-percent. Ortiz-Legg earned 59,721 votes, or 45.4-percent.

Cunningham, 38, worked as a San Luis Obispo County deputy district attorney before starting the Cunningham Law Group. He is also a member of the Templeton Unified School District Board of Trustees.

He will replace outgoing state Assemblyman Katcho Achadjian (R-Arroyo Grande).
